Save the wetlands and then we can think about saving the entire earth: Advocate Bikram Singh Sidhu | Social Worker in Ludhiana

Advocate Bikram Singh Sidhu, a Social Worker in Ludhiana highlights the importance of wetlands on world wetlands day

Wetlands are land areas that are saturated or overflowed with water either forever or occasionally. Inland wetlands include marshes, ponds, lakes, fens, waterways, floodplains, and swamps. Waterfront wetlands incorporate saltwater bogs, estuaries, mangroves, tidal ponds, and even coral reefs. Fishponds, rice paddies, and saltpans are human-made wetlands.

Adv. Bikram Singh Sidhu highlights the importance of wetlands on world wetlands day

World Wetlands Day is celebrated globally every year on 2 February. It denotes the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) in Ramsar, Iran, on 2 February 1971. This day denotes the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. The current year's theme is 'Wetlands and Water'. According to UNESCO, the particular theme has been adapted to emphasize the "significance of wetlands as a source of freshwater" and support "activity to restore them and stop their loss".  This day serves to recognize the impact and positive production that Wetlands have had on the world and in term brings communities for the benefit of Mother Nature. This day also raises global awareness because wetlands play a significant role in individuals as well as on the planet. Local area protectors and environmental enthusiasts all come together on this day to celebrate their affection for nature through celebration, which recognizes how wetlands have helped not only people, yet a wide range of living beings in this world.

Over a long time, human construction has prompted different natural issues influencing wetlands. Over-populace and development have led to a diminishing in environmental preservation and altogether has brought upon issues to these marvelous lands. Numerous wetlands are being lost and we should perceive this problem before we lose a natural filter and conserver of the world. Whenever you look into a water body and see a small environment of plant life and organisms, a wetland is in observation and we as a world community should ensure these dear communities of life. This is the reason we celebrate wetlands on World Wetlands Day
